This thread is for new and old members alike. This will outline the rules for our forums, filecave, and chat. We ask all members to read through these rules, as we will enforce them to improve the overall community.

Major rules:
1. Anything racist, sexist, hateful, pornographic, illegal, slanderous, or insulting in any way is prohibited. We also do not permit the promotion of piracy, illegal game cracks, etc... Violations of this rule will likely result in your account and IP being banned, and if deemed necessary, authorities will be contacted.
2. Please keep the language clean. We ask that you substitute swear words for non-profane words instead, in an effort to protect the reputation of our forums. Swearing will be censored by one of our staff members on first site.

Minor Rules:


1. Please do not spam a thread. Some things that are considered spam are:

* Posting a thread asking for help with an avatar, then posting five minutes later saying something like "Come on guys I reallllyy neeed helppp!!!! affraid " People will help you, but please don't expect an immediate response, as our members do have real lives outside of this site.
* Double posting. As a general rule, we do allow double posting, but only if the posts are more than 24 hours apart, OR if the post is in your developer diary. Otherwise, we ask you to use the edit button instead. (Look for the Forum Rules and Staff List I_icon_edit button) Double posting may result in your posts being merged by a moderator.
* Posting random threads advertising your clothes department is prohibited. Several duplicate threads with the purpose of advertising generally come from spambots, and thus, if you post such spam, it will be treated as if it were from a spambot. (See the inkeeper rule)
* Posting as if it were your cell phone is considered spam is not encouraged. This includes stuff like "sup man, r u sk8t boardin 2day." The occasional abbreviated text language is OK, as long as your whole post isn't covered with it.

2. You must be 13 years of age or over to participate on Simmania. This includes the forums, filecave, and chat. Our moderators and admins are required to enforce this for legal reasons, according to the COPPA act in US law. This is also a policy of our forum host.
3. This forum is in English. We ask that you make an effort to make your posts understandable, as we do have members from all over the world. Alternatively, if English isn't your first language, a translator, though they aren't perfect, can be very helpful. Smile
4. Do not post entire messages in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. This is the written equivalent of yelling, and it usually doesn't get your point across as well as you think it will. Bold text is a better alternative.
5. Before starting a new topic, check and see if one covering the same discussion isn't already created. If you see a similar topic after you post a new one, you can ask a staff member to merge the two.
6. Don't feed trolls. Save your breath.
7. Please do not post in red. Red is reserved for moderators and admins.
8. Generally, users are only allowed one user account, unless granted explicit permission by an administrator. The only exception is if you are unable to log in with your normal user account, and the "request new password" link does not work. We permit clones for this purpose only. If you are having account trouble, we ask you to contact an administrator promptly, as we will gladly assist you.

Note- The staff reserves the right to edit any post.
Breach of the minor rules may result in a warning from a moderator or admin.

The Innkeeper Rule:
Posting any thread that is specifically designed to advertise merchandise for sale on sites like Ebay, Craigslist, ect. is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate and most likely permanent ban. This is to protect our community from viruses and malware that may exist outside of the site. Bans are permanent because this usually only happens with spambot users who only use our forums for that purpose.

If somebody does need a new game or something of that nature, you can tell them to buy it at Best Buy or another trusted site. Smile



Avatars, signatures, and images:
1. Avatars must conform to a size of 150X200.
2. Due to the new design of SM3, large signatures make the forum look more cluttered than they did before. We ask that you keep your signatures reasonably short. Moderators reserve the right to remove excessively large signatures if they feel it is at their best discretion to do so.
3. Links to other websites are permitted in your signature, but the website must follow the rules we follow here. Links to sites that clearly violate the rules (i.e. a pornographic site) will be removed and will likely result in a ban.
4. There is no official size limit on images here at Simmania. We have an image resizer in place to keep images from being unreasonably large.

Private messages:
1. This website is not a battlefield where two members can openly fight about something. If you and another member have a disagreement, please calmly talk it over through the use of PMs.
2. Do not PM the whole site with a link to your website. We allow you to advertise your website in your signature and your profile, or in the other sites board.
3. The administration cannot, and will not read your PMs. All site rules still apply, however. We have the ability to revoke your private messaging privileges if we receive a report of their abuse.


Moderators and Admins:
1. Respect all of our moderators and admins. They are doing their job on a voluntary basis and are chosen with trust only, so please be sure to co-operate with them. Failure to listen to a moderator or admin could result in a ban. If you have a grievance with any specific moderator, or feel that you are being disciplined unfairly, please feel free to private message one of our administrators, as we will gladly work with you.
2. Please do not ask to be a staff member or moderator. We grant staff positions to users based on their overall abidance to the above rules, overall contributions/activity in the community, competency, and necessity. Asking to be a moderator or admin is not encouraged and will not work. That said, if you wish to become a staff member, the best route is to be active and kind in the forums, and to follow all of the rules carefully.
3. If you need any help from an administrator or moderator, feel free to post in the suggestion box, or message an administrator, as we will promptly assist you. You can contact an administrator by clicking one of the links below.

Chat Rules:
1. All rules that apply to the forums apply to chat.
2. As chat is a separate log in, please use your Simmania username as your screen name in chat, or something very similar. Using unrecognizable screen names, or posing as other members is not allowed.
3. Please do not link to sites that are malicious, pornographic, illegal, or otherwise inappropriate in the chat room. We've had many problems with this in the past, and strictly enforce this rule to improve the overall community.
4. Sexually explicit language and other forms of profanity are prohibited, and may result in disciplinary action.
5. We do not permit fighting or intense arguments in the Lobby. If you need to work things out, please use the recovery room.


Filecave Rules:
1. We encourage you to comment on the work on the Filecave. With this said, make sure your comments abide by the guidelines above. Posts that are down the line of "first comment!" will be deleted.
2. We encourage you to rate on the work on the Filecave. You do not need to rate everything 5/5, but rate fairly; don't rate 1/5 just because of a personal vendetta you have with someone.
3. If you upload content, make sure it relates to a city builder, or something we all mutually know here. (E.g. SC4, or Cities XL) Anything that doesn't relate to that game will not be put up to the public.
4. Your content, descriptions, pictures, etc. in your upload must follow the rules of the site. If you see violations on a download you've got from the Filecave, please report it to a staff member as soon as you realize it.
5. Do not explicitly plagiarize the work of others, and do not use the work of others to your own personal monetary gain. You will be banned from the site if we have sufficient evidence to prove you guilty of these offenses.
6: Obviously, no malicious or illegal content is to be uploaded. More detail on these rules can be found on this page at the filecave. We ask that you read those rules before uploading content.

Due to technical limitations of our forum host, we were not able to link the Filecave database with the forums. Thus, separate registration is required in order to comment and upload. Downloading does not require registration. We encourage all users to register to the filecave, however, as it gives access to the full functionality of the filecave. Smile

If i'm right its like the way my site is set up, Admin is for the stuff like rules, bannings and such, MayorM is his regular account, I have an account Admin and an account Will on my site so it makes sense and its agood Idea too I think...

Joshriddle_1234- Yes I do have my Admin account that automatically is made when I made the site. Then I have my mayorm account which will never make it past the rank of moderator.

If I remember correctly Mayorm told me we had a 300x50 image policy for the signatures, (when mine was oversized), and I didn't notice it up on the rules. I think it should be added just so ppl will know. Wink

By the way, as far as the staff list, K50 has been decided as the next leader of the SSS. (I'm posting it in this board so that it will also show up on the portal. I've posted it other places too so that everyone knows. EDIT: Apparently there is something strange with the portal that is causing it not to show correctly. It's showing the first post in the thread instead. )

I am confident that K50 will be a good leader of the SSS. (He'll probably far-outdo me and I'll probably have to stop in to see what happens with it sometime) I did want to say that I told K50 that he could continue MOTMs as a non-SSS event if he wanted while the SSS was down, not knowing the SSS board would be locked. I just wanted to let you guys know of that.

Well the MOTM thread is still left unlocked and will remain unlocked. That was my bad, I just came in and locked everything and didn't make it clear I was leaving the MOTM thread open.

Blakesterville- Thank you for all you have done here. Smile And (if I may speak for everyone) we will all miss you being around the community. And I think we would all enjoy seeing you around once in awhile if you get a chance to stop by here. Also I've sent you my personal thank you via PM.

Well, it's the day before July 2nd, and the SSS should be coming back very soon. (There hasn't been much community talk on the matter, but me, Mayorm, and K50 have spent the last couple weeks very busy with the whole thing. ) K50 will be the new leader, he'll be leading the SSS starting tomorrow. We'll have to see what he does. The boards should come back up to the rest of you in short notice, probably in just a couple days at latest.

Recently (as most of you know) a spam bot acount posted some ads for various Nike Products in the New Members forum. Me and Blakesterville both took care of the problem and have added a new rule under the posting section on the first post, "The Innkeeper Rule" named after the stupid bot that spawned it. Smile

@K50: I think that the reason is that red is a really good color for moderators like you to use if, for instance, you need to censor something. It makes it bold and clear that a moderator has edited the post. If the average member were to type in red, it would become more confusing in certain cases to tell if a moderator has done something to the post.

Adding to what DC said, I think that, in my opinion, we need some new mods too. Some of the boards are still "unmoderated". (Of course that just means that Mayorm and I moderate those, but some guests might not know that...) The problem is that it's hard to find good mods in a site as small as this. Samerton and Meister have helped fill in holes here and there though.

K50: The Red rule is in place so that it is clear when a moderator or admin edits or corrrects something in a thread, just like blakesterville hasd already said Smile

Also I've been thinking the same thing about moderators and other things, maybe we should get a staff meeting set up to decide what we want to do about that.
