Something that died out in US when american rail companies where no longer forced to operate passenger service on all of their lines is passenger traffic with 1 car DMUs. Over here it's still common on side-lines which connect a series of towns to an important commuter station. ÖBB usually uses series 5047 DMUs, one of them, (5047-024) is seen here short before reaching Obersdorf station which offers trains to Vienna every 20 to 30 minutes. Well, in Canada, there is still the Victoria-Courtenay train which sometimes travel in 1 unit DMUs

I have a few from a trip to Kansas City a few weeks ago. These pictures were taken in the beautiful suburb of Lees Summit Missouri.













For only being a single track line, it was very active. Both of these trains were about 10 minutes apart going opposite directions. Plus I had just missed an Amtrak train at 2:00pm

I have some more from my KC trip, I stayed in town for two hockey games. So after watching trains in Lees Summit, I looked online to find some other spots around KC, which drew me out to the Kansas suburbs. So here is some pics from Olathe, KS.

Main Street runs parralel to the tracks, but there is no parking on the street so the businesses and city built parking lots behind the trackside businesses that go right to the tracks.













After that I decided to move on, but only got to the next crossing over from where I was before...

Just a sign of live xD Here is an austrian DIESEL on a stretch without catenary. For you americans nothing special but I had to travel about 20 kilometers to find a track without catenary and freight traffic.

I actually do that There is a diesel line just to the north of my house but I have to have luck if there are two trains a WEEK(Yeah, I should find out the timetable and spot 'em) So I searched for lines with a bit more of freght traffic(And other locomotives than switcher engines). There are exactly two of them within 30 kilometers of travel distance. Everything elles has catenary.
