EDIT: Currently, several people are having issues with 404 errors. It appears to be related to the geographical location of the user, and we are working to fix this. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Simmania has waited over three years for this, and the time has now come. Hosting is currently unstable, but Simmania will have a file exchange at last! Click here to access our new file exchange.
We are calling it the Simmania Filecave, or just SMFC for short. Simlink and I have worked very hard on this, and it supports automated publishing, comments, rating, and categories for SC4 and CXL right "out of the box."
Unfortunately, due to hosting problems, we are seeing some limits as well. Due to some financial issues, Suzaku is no longer able to afford hosting for our chat/exchange. He has worked very hard to find a solution, and unfortunately, the money just isn't there. Luckily, I've found a free hosting solution that can host our file exchange. Unfortunately, I've looked into their TOS very carefully, and they won't host chat scripts. Thus, we will lose our nice chat, but we will get a file exchange.
Some important info:
(1) Unfortunately, the free host only allows uploads of up to 2 MB. (Actually, it allows files larger than 2 MB to be hosted, but PHP cannot upload them. Because the automated upload system depends very strongly on PHP, larger files can only be manually uploaded by an administrator. Please don't let this be a hindrance if you have larger uploads, as we will be more than happy to manually upload them for you. To compensate for this, in addition to the .zip format, we also allow you to use the .7z format, which has better compression ratios. We are also working on dropbox integration, which may allow an alternative upload method for larger files. )
(2) The server has been experiencing some connection issues recently. The webhost has informed me that they are working on fixing this. Unfortunately, some geographical locations (including my own) seem to be having some trouble with it. Currently, nothing can be done about this. We apologize for the inconvenience.
(3) Separate registration is required. We are unable to link the two databases together because forummotion doesn't give us direct access to the forum database. Registration at the Filecave is easy, but we've also had problems with the login information emails ending up in people's spam folders. Please check your spam folder after registering if you cannot see the email within five minutes. On the off chance that the email still cannot be found, please PM either me or Simlink, and we can manually set a temporary password, and then you can change it from there. Hopefully this won't be an issue for anyone.
(4) Our first stage of BETA testing is complete, but we are still working to improve the exchange. If you notice anything fishy, please let us know. I'm actually pretty sure there will still be stuff to fix.
Also, regarding our chat, we hope to find another hosting solution again, although it may not be as nice as the one we had before. Be sure to thank Suzaku for our old chat, as we are certainly very glad to have him as a part of the community!
Please note that our current hosting situation is not stable. We are not doing anything against the terms of service, but free web hosts are known to randomly terminate people's accounts. Let's hope and pray that this does not happen to us! Because of this, it is EXTRA IMPORTANT that no abuse occurs on the exchange. Spam, copyrighted content, illegal content, etc... will not be taken lightly on the filecave.
Anyway, I hope these limitations won't take away from the experience too much. Simlink and I are very exited to present the file exchange, and hope you guys will enjoy!
