Post Under Construction. We've moved so this is being updated.

Just thought I might post this here, hopefully you don't mind mayorm.

The site is currently closed for construction, and has been for about 15 hours. The remodel is trying to bring a breath of fresh air to the site, and make it lighter and less old-looking and clunky. Hopefully that is achieved. I am using some HTML, CSS and Javascript this time around to implement a few things here and there, and to edit some elements of the theme. That's why it is taking so long. (Things go wrong, images the wrong size, stuff like that... )


If you try to access the site you will find an HTML page with a twitter feed, simmilar to Simtropolis' "Site down" page. This twitter feed provides general updates on how the renovation is going.

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read this. Hope to see some more people at Simopsis post-remodel.


UPDATE : ~3 hours later and Simopsis is now back online!

Thought I would give an update on our membership. We are slow growing, sitting at 6 (but really 5) members. Activity is certainly slow, sometimes I am talking to myself, or Cheese once in a while. We have 126 posts - that's it. Our forums look empty, so if anyone is interested in joining the site at the ground floor, now is the time.

I am especially looking to build our content creation and showoff - like DD's for SC4 and housing/lots/Sims/pets, etc. for The Sims 3. If you do any, or have a team which could use its own board, I would be happy to do so.

Last thing, we have twitter! Follow us @SimopsisForums.

I am happy to announce that I have moved all things related to my "The Sims 3" creations - H09 productions - to my site. It also marks the start of the Simopsis Signature Creators Forum. As creators make their selves at home at Simopsis, those who wish to have their own forum will be granted (based on the criteria already set out), much like team boards here at SM. The difference is this is for all games Simopsis covers; TS3, SC4, CXL and TS2.

If you create things for any of these and are looking to expand where you post updates, you are more than welcome to Simopsis!

We are growing slowly, but we are getting somewhere. FYI, H09 Productions is me, and my H09 account will only post TS3 stuff, you won't find it anywhere else. (Or, at least you shouldn't. )

This new host appears nice but half of the time the site is down which is very frustrating...

Yes, I'll admit that's very annoying. That and twitter has suspended my @SimopsisForums account... not too happy about that.

Anyways, the host announced over twitter their doing server maintenance at the moment. I've looked at their uptime - they seem to have one month a year where the server goes wanky. I guess this year it's July. If it persists I'll explore some options/yell at them. ()

Do you have any idea when this whole server move thing is going to be over? And is there any other options for hosting if this keeps up like this?

Currently it is unknown. Apparently the actual changing/moving of servers is complete, it is the database cleanup/fixing that is occurring right now. No idea how long it should take - no updates on hosts twitter feed or support forum, which is also flakey.

I haven't really considered other options, but I do own a simopsis domain with 000webhost. Not ideal, but it would be a solution. I am hoping to stay, though.

So sorry everyone... I am as much in the dark as you are and that does not impress me.

This outage this time is likely caused by the fact they are still working on the servers. Long story short, during the server move the database permissions didn't copy over and they've had to reset them (by hand) for each of the 50000 forums. May explain the current outage. I hope.

Okey dokey. So, work on a "new" simopsis has ramped up due to the downtime. Simopsis members: What do you think of moving again? Would you rather move or wait until the current site comes back online? Please respond!


Either way, work is progressing on a new Simopsis. It would mean you have to re-register again, however copying posts over would be easy because the formatting would be exactly the same - the new backup/test/version 3 also runs on SMF. It has some cool things going on.

Again, I'm sorry about this downtime. During my testing of this host there were no problems. Your patience is appreciated.

So in summary, do you support a move? What are your thoughts overall?

I'd say give them another week. If the site still isn't up by then, then we move, is my opinion

they're still not up, over ride my opinion and go through with this new site, after beta testing confirms that they aren't a bunch of idiots who dont know what they're doing..

Work continues, (always has been...) and beta-test will commence. Then it will go live.

Yes, we are finally back. And everything loads faster, to boot. I'm looking at doing a small reorganization and portal remodel in the future... though I won't take the site down for that. We've had enough downtime.

I'm please to announced that today marks the opening of the Simopsis File Exchange - SPEX! It is not anything fancy. In fact, it is a second forum running SMF just like the main site. Due to hosting issues, our other options didn't pan out. While it is not super pretty, it will work for us for now.

I encourage you to check it out. Not much there yet, but hopefully we will soon see some awesome content.
