edit: dammit.. posted in the wrong board.. move this thread if needed.
SC4 has outlived many other games.. it's entirely playable and each time it's different instead of games where you do one thing.. and it's done. Think of Skyrim.. I enjoy it.. but after hours and hours in.. it just gets to be the same go pick up crap or go rescue crap from some place or person.. being able to play it over and over and over without anything being boring is the beauty of sandboxes.
But SC4 is generally dead. A lot of people are in denial about it unfortunately.. but think of how old this game is. Even two years is a long time for games.. which is why I said that SC4 outlived several other games.
Look at our SC4 forum here.. I was looking for a reference tutorial I wrote quite a while ago (oct 2010). I was expecting it to be on the last page.. waaaay towards the back. It's two posts up from the first page. The last post in the SBT board was last July just to say that SBT is dead.. last post in the WW2 board was an empty showcase thread. The Other sites and unions board is full of unions and places that simply aren't taking off (I despise unions but I'll try to be unbiased as possible). Unions have become too much work and are frankly too dramatic for it to be any fun.. it's nothing much more than a chore. It's a problem when you try to make an RPG out of any game that's not intended for roleplaying. And SC4.. it's not intended for multiplayer period. SC5 will do game servers so that might help that issue.
Over here the forum games and new members board have been more active than the SC4 one. On larger sites I've seen more Minecraft and Skyrim threads than SC4 ones. As far as SC5 goes, I'm still reserved about it honestly, but it's received enough publicity that it might bring back the SC4 community.. at least temporarily.
Point is.. SC4 has run its course. But if Simmania is going to continue growing it's best that it incorporates other interests of the time. It would mean a major site overhaul.. perhaps even renaming.. but it's one thing to do to keep this place growing.. and make members more active. And this is one of the very few forums that I still actually want to stay involved in.
