Lol I didn't think it was that bad. Just different.

I wish I would've gotten a chance to try it. That being said, I'm not sure what I would've played it on.

The pictures.. look good, it's more my style. I'm not a stickler for jaw-dropping realism, I just want a realistic city in terms of how it works, and the Glassbox engine looks pretty darn good.

I forsee that we'll be able to do some texture mods from the get-go, or soon thereafter, which will suit me pretty fine.

Maxis has promised that the game will be "moddable". In that sense, they did listen to the community. And hey, they also have "curvy roads"! What more could we ingrates want?

I'm not going to sign anything off 'til it's released and I've played it. I, for one, had a good time with the latest CXL game, while it got wide criticism from just about everyone.

I'm almost trying not to look at all the forum criticism and go into the game with a fresh mind. Yes, the Origin part sucks, especially with my internet connection, but perhaps it's just a phase that we're going through as gamers and as a gaming industry. It'll pass, I'm sure, because it's ridiculous. That being said, it doesn't effect the gameplay at all.

Most of the people who were complaining about the beta complained of the crashing servers and unreliable connection to them, and if that's the biggest problem, then that does make me feel a little better, since I can rest assured that the gameplay will be satisfactory.

It is quite possible that they will make an update, similar to what happened with Cities XL when they went to offline mode. Personally, not all games are the same, and if we want SC5 that's exactly like SC4, it should just be called SC4. SC2013 may be great in its own unique way.

I do hope that the offline component grows, however. The high price tag is definitely going to keep me from buying the game, due to affordability issues, but I think I'll be willing to give the game a real chance.

I believe the CEO of EA stated that the game would be "always-online", perhaps for the rest of eternity.

Don't rule out the official expansion packs to SC5 either. Nobody was doing any custom content until Rush Hour was out with the ability to download it. There could be a big change about the hard coding of the game if Maxis pulls off another stunt like that to make more money (because the base price isn't enough right now).

On a further note... the NAM wasn't released with any puzzle pieces until 2005 (I think), the RHW wasn't out until 2005 (and was much different than how you know it today), and the NWM wasn't out until 2010. People are going to have to give this game a lot of time before it has any chance of outdoing what modifications have done to SimCity 4.

It's quite surprising that SC4 has lasted so long. Honestly, if EA's SC2013 doesn't work out, they are screwed. It seems like the Simcity community is beginning to go downhill as a whole.

True, but that being said, I think we could see a new wave of players with this SimCity game, regardless of how good it seems to us. Just think - if you were a lot younger now, and SC 2013 was your first city building game, and you grew up in an age of social networking from a very young age, this might not seem that bad.

SC 4 is the best Sim City ever- it still is very much alive. after all this time Sim City fans won't give into online only play of the game we've made our own.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Though I have to admit I like their new "groups" function...

Excuse the digression, but I don't think anybody will be using the "groups" thing on ST by the end of this year

Not much point in it, but ST is only trying to embrace the new SimCity to keep activity high. But its not what gave the site life and it's not what will save it. I don't see why they can't just make sure SC4 is still enriched to the full

Well they wouldn't be run by very experienced people. I have seen some of them on ST

It would be pretty impressive if someone actually pulled it off.

ST already has a large presence in the community, I think it would still be the first place that SC5 players would go to. I think SC5 and 4 will coexist, much like TS2 and TS3 do right now.
