Ok

So, here is what I have done in the past year and a half of owning SC4.

Crud
Crud
Crud
Crud
Somewhat cruddy
Little better
Too much CC
Too little CC
CC clashing with vannila and other CC making it look strange....

I cannot seem to find a style here for playing. Just something that I can stick with. I actually seem to enjoy throwing a little maxis house next to a mattb mansion. None of my cities seem to have their own "mood". So basically I just place random things everywhere, not aware of anything.

I tried doing nothing but custom content, and I get bored with it, and I try doing vanilla with a little CC, and I get bored with it. I think that CC makes cities look best, when in all actuallity, the style makes it look good/bad.

Now I am into rural cities. Rural towns, nothing else. However I ALWAYS slip SOME midrise in that "rural" town somewhere....

Hm, The big broblem with CC is that you have to download only things that fit into a specific style and that you have to be consequent in that. I collect only asian things, buildings, trains, temples... everything asian.... that gives a city it's own flair.

For a mid western style (for example)

Try collecting only things that fit into one style, for example only houses of mattb and houses that are buildt in a style that fits into them as small buildings, only brick architecture for midrises and brick&glass mixed for highrises. But do not take buildings that have a very futuristic style or are located in eurup or asia. Don't use a catenery mod and search for amtrack passanger cars and locomotives, use things like the chicago L for light rails, do not use the euro car mod or the japaneese car mod for your traffic automata.

For haveing the correct farmland download the necessary mods and delete the things like flower fields or rice paddies (and everything elles that does not fit into your regions) download some nice looking trees, for example the ones of simfox, use them a little but not too much.

I hope that helpes =)

Music is the same way. You can't seem to find one single style that you like. LOL.

My SC4 style is a tad bit lazy when it comes to my cities. I tend to try to finish them off very quickly as opposed to spend hours on them, but that's because I don't have hours to spend on them.

Thanks skimbo for the advice. Right now my style is, well, my style. Not really based off of anything in RL, but my favorite kind of stuff is plopping tiny rural towns, like what you can see in my DD.
