Andera Islands: Introduction
Andera Islands is based on what I call 'interactive sensible growth', which means it will attempt to create a Region (very) loosely following the concept of natural growth giving all players access to all maps.
Andera Islands is not intended as a region in which each player builds as mayor of a city, but as a region that, similar to a model railroad club, is build together by all players to create a region.
This happens in the course of the game based on necessity, tenders, proposals, stupid ideas ...
The broad principles are chosen, and the decisions made, by a 'Parliament' (vote by the players that is) and everything else will be 'privatized industries' or role play. This might include construction companies, City planners, mining companies, environmental groups, ski lift operators,...
These 'institutions', founded by the players, will then play in place of the 'real' players.
Schematic flow of the game:
1) At the beginning, various maps are awarded to several players where each
one builds various small villages. Pretty much the only restriction here will be the size of the village.
Upon completion of the work the maps are returned to the Server.
2) Work on the connecting maps. Roads with further urban and
agricultural areas (and whatever else springs to our minds) on the surrounding maps to have everything gradually grow together.
Maps will be given by request or by winning a tender for a given project. Upon
completion of the work the maps are returned to the Server.
3) Depending on 'making sense' and simple lust for tinkering the individual maps will be enlarged, Highways build, tracks laid, stadiums (airports, exhibition halls, Nature reserves, canals,...) build.
At point 1 and 2 while there obviously will be restrictions on the 'creative freedom', this will be most likely concerned with size and type of construction, not limiting the actual creativity or the layout.
The concept 'prohibits' nothing, it prescribes the requirements regarding the building density and, inevitably following from this, fairly precise population numbers only.
As for the way forward it just won't necessarily be a specific players job to work at any given city, but the player who has a good idea or who is good
at whatever is necessary to build.
Example: A map on which I have built the first town where Mr.Y then built Rail lines, we now need a container port. We both don't know how to or simply don't want to, but Mr.X is good at it or he feels like it.
So the map goes to him for the port. Then the city will be expanded, which again will be done by somebody who's good at downtown building or just feels like he has a good idea.
