The news is out that an "El Muhammed" hacked Simtropolis, as it said on their homepage earlier. According to sources, the site is now just offline. Some people can still access the STEX, but I think that the STEX was just in their cache.

Now I am sure it really wasn't an El Muhammed though, someone hiding his real name.

However, it's nothing to worry about. The creator of the site had it up and running again within minutes.

It's happened many times before and I have pictures that I won't be posting of previous hacks.

IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN and the site homepage needs to be taken down, just use the direct URL to either the forums, the CJ's or the STEX. They haven't been hacked for a long time, it's just the homepage that seems to have the problems.

My Simtropolis account once got hacked. That was suprising because my password was a bunch of completely random characters. It is now more than twice as long than it was then, although I won't tell you exactly how many characters. (To give you an idea, it's almost 20).

I'm not thinking that they got in with my password (again, considering the security of my password). They probably found other means, which is scary.

It's a whole lot worse when Simtropolis itself gets hacked.

hmmm.... It must have been fixed before I got on ST, because the homepage was normal.

Also I'm proud to say that Simmania has never been hacked. And I will do my best to keep it hack free.

Some suggestions to keep this site hack free is to make sure all staff members log off before leaving the site (unless it is for like a few seconds or something) and make sure that admins have to reauthenticate themself before accessing the admin panel

As far as the confirm password thing, I just did that. (It only means that site admins have to type their password again before entering the admin panel. That means that nobody could sneak in and change the site just because I'm logged onto Simmania. )

But idk if Simmania is really big enough to actually be hacked anyway.

It can't hurt to take simple measures, though.

Simtropolis seems to be under attack again today. Some members of the chat have been redirected to a 'King5' site which has a poll about Israel or something...
Also, when I was browsing the forums, I, too was redirected.

EDIT: Simtropolis is NOW FIXED of this bug/hacking incident after nearly 1 hour of this redirecting.

I think these people have probably found ways to get in besides just guessing the password. That's unfortunate.

I think what's happening is due to the release of the Network Addon Mod v30, the Real Highway Mod v5.0 and the Network Widening Mod v2.0, the site is crashing due to all of the people downloading. This is fairly normal when the NAM is upgraded.

Hard Drive Failure... The site Simtropolis does not exist anymore (or transferring on another server)
