The United States government announced today that the leader of al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, is dead.

This is pretty recent news, I'll get an article from a news source as soon as I can. I do know that the US Army shot him in a mansion in Pakistan.

I've made this an announcement on the Current Event forums for the next week, since this is a major turning point in the War on Terrorism.

Navy Seals and CIA sent a 4 man squad into his compound which had been under servalence [I know thats misspelled sorry] since last august and the 4 man squad killed him and 3 other adult men, one believed to be one of his sons. His body was buried in the North Arabian Sea....

I read it in the news this morning and was rather surprised. The US had been looking so long that it was not something most people probably expected.

I'm not certain, but I think that he was actually very close to an army base in Pakistan during the bombing. It's surprising that he chose to hide there. I guess that we can say that justice has been done -- finally.

Just a small queston: Why is this worth an announcement?

Well I think it comes down to having a very US based membership including me, k50, cheesey, mayorm, blakesterville, etc. And its an important issue to the american members.
