Today I went messing around in my registry and found about 6-7 pieces of "registry". Mostly these were subkeys. (I used Registry Editor)
Don't worry, this should be simple enough to understand.
First place I found was a small registry subkey titled "CO7FT5Y" within the Hkey Local Machine (Hive)>>Software (Subkey). Inside that subkey I found another subkey titled "SimCity 4". Here is where I am at incase you are lost:
There is that one little bit of reg data jutting out to the right on the right pane that says Default. This registry data has no imformation associated with it.
What I did next is backed up the subkey titled SimCity 4 as a registration entry.
Now, since I have a backup of my subkey should this be essential, I delete the data. It told me this:
Windows doesn't want you exporting data I assume, so I decided to open my backup of the subkey I found. All it said was this:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\C07ft5Y\SimCity 4]
Just simply the path to where the subkey will be installed.
After navigating to the C07ft5Y subkey I found the safedisc registry stuff. So that needs to remain.
Now I proceed over to the HKEY LOCAL MACHINE Hive, then navigate through the Maxis>>SimCity 4 Keys and subkeys. I then find this:
The first one is unknown as it has no data associated with it.
The second one is simply the display name. This is essentially the full name of the game.
The third one is the language key, that displays the game in your language
The fourth one is the name of the language you installed.
Knowing what is in there, I then navigate to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE>>SOFTWARE>> Maxis>>SimCity 4>>EP1. This is the EP1 data, unfortunately, I know nothing about random letters such as this:
Now navigate to the SImCity 4 Subkey and we find this:
Next we go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE>>SOFTWARE>>Electronic Arts>>Maxis>>SimCity 4 Deluxe>>ergc. There is data in here that holds your product key that must be entered before installing. Well, uhm, well, I don't know if I should post a screenshot with that.
Now exiting the registry we find our SC4 files. I'll go to C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe. These are your SC4 files that hold things such as the details, and buildings, etc...
Now up into My Documents is Albums, regions, and plugins.
Now I have a few questions that you might be able to answer.
Btw, when we proceed to a subkey that simply holds nothing but another subkey, it puts an empty value in there, that assumingly holds the path of that subkey. All keys have them. Registry hives do not have these.

- In this section we learned that this seemingly empty subkey and value has something to do with the SafeDISC application.

- The first one is unknown as there is no data entered into it
- The second one is assumingly the "Cache Size" according to the name
- The third one is the CD Drive label that the game looks at when first starting the game in order to launch the inserted Disc 2 SC4 CD
- The fourth one is once again the display name
- The fifth one is where my shortcuts located in the Cascading Menus (under All Programs) is located.
- The sixth one holds the location of installation. Notice the
- The seventh one holds data from what drive the program was installed from. In this case, it was installed from , which is the CD Drive/
- The eighth one appears to be something that has to do with Deluxe
- The nineth one displays the language instaleld
- The tenth one is the location where the game was bought
- The eleventh one is the patch url where the patches can be downloaded
- The twelth one I have no idea
- The thirteenth one holds the "region" which for some reason is blank.
- Registration is where the data is located (I think)
- Swap Size in Windows is your page file, but in this case I do not know
