According to an article on pcgamer.com, Maxis claims city sizes will eventually expand, but they've made no promises as to when. To me, this is definitely great news, since the city sizes seem to be one of the most limiting components to gameplay.

Maxis is still concerned about the performance of the game, however. They do not want to immediately expand cities because of the inability to play it on lower-end PCs. Being someone that doesn't have the grandest of PCs myself, I do hope it performs well when I buy it, but at the same time the city sizes are a bit ridiculous Razz

Anyway, hopefully Maxis follows through with this. We might not have to deal with tiny cities forever Razz

Personally, I'm OK with the whole idea of an expansion pack if they can ultimately make it worthwhile, as they did with Rush Hour and SC4. SC4 of course was also released at a ridiculously high price tag, but we'll have to see what happens with SC 2013.

All I have to say is, I really hope these prices go down soon Razz

EA, prices going down?? You had me going for a while, there, Blake. Razz
Honestly, EA games come down in price slowly... but sometimes retailers will put them on sale... just not often. Here anyways.

But yea, the Maxis guy who made that comment wouldn't confirm to a timeline, if at all, larger map sizes will happen. Looking at all the horror stories of Origin servers, I'm staying away for a little while. Razz

I think that a big part of the instability is largely due to the fact that it's only been out for a day. Some of that is expected, and it's likely they'll work a lot of that out as time goes by.

But yeah, EA comes down with the pricing slowly. The market may cause prices to go down faster with this particular release, but I'm not putting my bets on being able to buy this any time soon Razz

I'm sure there are going to be bugs, and adjustments will have to be made. But I think we will see SC13 become a game that we long time SC fans will love.

That's precisely why I haven't completely written this game off - I know that for now the servers will be haywall - it has just launched afterall. Though needing an internet connection all the time, whatever the reason, still frustrates me. My internet certainly isn't the most reliable and is known to have 8 hour outages "due to unknown technical difficulties with the system" - my providers approx. words. Razz

There are several other things nagging me about this game including the city tile size. That is perhaps one of the larger points - I like to create massive sprawling cities. Very Happy So hopefully they do eventually increase.

I think that they probably will follow through with it eventually. I don't really plan on buying the game until they do, but if they fix the city size and their servers become more stable, I think it really could be a pretty awesome game. Right now, at least for me, the price tag is just to high for what it is. Razz

Maybe, just maybe, if they remove the DRM, make it moddable, bigger city tiles and what else. Maybe Ill look into buying it, but the price and the current problems with it is driving me away atm.

Larger maps would be great, absolutely. But so would tiles abutting eachother. No more random green space. Razz
