SC4 is now over ten years old. Custom content has kept it active and alive, but with it using technology so old it is not well supported on newer systems, it may be seeing its end soon, and without a good replacement, will we end up leaving SC4 behind?

Personally, I think SC4 has at least a couple years left, since the general community hasn't accepted SC 2013 yet. With SC4 being as old as it is, it is unlikely that the technology of the future will really support it for much longer, however. I'd honestly be surprised if we had a large following of SC4 players five or six years from now. What are your thoughts?

I'd say five years tops. Activity is going down very quick, and I think this is an irreversible trend that, frankly, is only going to speed up.

And of course newer computers don't support it as well, which is kind of a big deal too Wink

I'd agree with K, max 5 more years. After that it will likely be much more of a "fringe" game/community. That is if the community in any shape/form survives. I sort of expect to decrease to the size of the CXL community, most likely.

Until a newer game that is accepted by the community is released there will be a sizeable SC4 crowd for many years yet. I wouldn't be surprised if some SC2013 people come over to SC4 once they release how superior it is as a game.

For-ever, well it will be a cult classic.

Its size will decline but stop around 2018 unless there's another reboot.
