SC4 is now ten years old. Without doubt, it has left a remarkable legacy, but with its poor performance on newer technology, as well as its comparison to the graphics of Cities XL and SC2013, its glory days may be coming to an end. Custom content, and especially mods such as the NAM, have significantly improve the Simcity community, but how long will the community last?

SC2013 has had some significant criticism so far, especially with the lack of an offline mode and smaller city sizes. Being fresh and new, however, is a significant advantage. With the SC4 community slowly declining, will SC2013 ultimately take the same spotlight that once was on SC4?

Personally, I doubt that we will still be seeing a crowd of SC4 players ten years from now. Most likely the community as a whole will have moved on, as it has been with SC3k (which is played mostly for the nostalgia of playing the more archaic versions of the game nowadays.) So, what are your opinions? Will SC2013 ultimately be a replacement for SC4?

I personally think they'll coexist, but SC2013 will hold a higher spot than SC4 will. But by no means is SC4 going to last another ten years, or even five, is my two cents.

That is very well said in my opinion Smile

SimCity 2013 has really gotten quite a lot of attention lately. It's seeming more and more likely to me that it will replace SC4, though I doubt it will entirely, at least for the next couple years.

I'm pretty confident that SC4 will remain for at least a few more years, personally. I think that it's definitely on its way out if SC2013 really takes off, though.

Well, if you ask me, SC4 is already on a decline.
It really doesn't seem that SC4 holds too much appeal anymore (except to those that are already in the community - even still, its not as active as it was), but SC2013 won't completely force SC4 out for another few years, IMO.

Agreed 110%. I think a big part of what's kept SC4 going is the community of fansites. It's really hard to believe that activity has begun to decline though. I've been playing Simcity (originally SC3k) ever since I was 11, so needless to say, I've seen quite a lot.

The fuel keeping the SC4 fansites alive just isn't there anymore it seems. I've seen several small sites recently.. many are just sinking ships, unfortunately. Mainly due to changing interests it would seem. I also think a lot of sites that previously were considered typical "SC4" sites will shift their primary focus to SC2013.

Some sites are still doing fine, which is good news. For new sites, without a doubt the fuel is gone. Keeping existing sites going takes a lot, but we saw surprising activity in the last 2-3 months, so all is not lost for fansites Razz

ST activity seems to have increased slightly as well, which is not what I had expected. I assume sc2013 has something to do with that. Razz
