So I'm sure by now, everyone heard about the shooting in the Aurora Colorado screening of the Dark Knight Rises. If not, its all over the news, and youtube videos show cell phone videos of the victims coming out of the theatre. (Not sure the best to do was film with cell phone).

Well first I will say that I'm saddened by this whole event, and I send out my thoughts and prayers to the victims and thier families, and friends. My facebook status from this morning reads:
Movies are made to entertain us. They are not made to terrorize us. May the victims of the Colorado shooting rest in peace.

I along with many people were excited for opening weekend of this movie, this shooting has definately put a damper on things for me and a lot of people now. However I still plan on going to see it, in a week, instead of tonight. While I'm not going to the act of this crazy man affect me, I do want to wait and let things clear up a bit (incase of any copycat crimes).

Also if anybody has seen it already, (without spoiling the ending) please discuss it here. Smile

I just wonder what teenager thought it would be cool to go down and shoot everyone at a theatre at a movie premiere...

Well according to the stories I have been reading. This guy was insane.

actually 24 years old.

This was premeditated, it would have happened if the movie was released next month, he would have done it then.

His weapons- A cannister (or 2) of tear gas, AR- 15 assault rifle, two handguns, and a shotgun.

The guns were purchased legally according to reports, but tear gas isn't readily available anywhere Neutral

Also he booby trapped his apartment, he timed the shooting so that there was gunfire in the scene when he started shooting, he was wearing all black, bulletproof clothes head to toe.

And he died his hair red, and when police captured him, the first thing he said was "I'm Joker"

This was so premeditated.

I'd say he's either extremely deranged or just acting like a typical 15 year old testing his boundaries and seeing what lies beyond them (yes, I'm aware he's 24).
it's a shame that in CO, execution isn't an option for murdering, and that's something i don't really say about anyone.

edit: I was reading more about it and they're already wanting to seek the death penalty for him.. just a sign of how serious this is.
It kind of struck me too as I lived in that area for a while.. but.. having not been there in many years it didn't affect me very much, although this was a very sad event.

It's extremely sad when someone would rather die than let someone else live.

I keep reading the stories, and details being released about this guy's apartment.

They all further point to this being a premeditated, isolated incident. Not only did the guy say he was the joker when he was captured, his apartment is a mess of different booby traps and explosives. I also read that he had bought a ticket (so everyone thought he was just in costume) then proceeded to prop open the exit door, and then start his attack. So while the possibility is there for some other nut to go and try to repeat this, I doubt it will happen again... because this was so premeditated. He just would have done it, no matter when the movie premiered, he would have waited until it did. He didn't just choose to do it randomly.

I read yesterday that he stated that he originally planned to kill Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway at the New York Premiere.

This guy is absolutely nuts since in the article it said that he is still refering to himself as the Joker, and he said that he wanted to "strike a blow to Gotham City." (by killing the cast members)

Just another sick guy out there. US could enforce stronger laws when it comes to ownership of guns.

Just think about the simpsons, the episode where Homer buys a gun. Describes it pretty well.

'It's easy to make you mad, so you're still allowed to own three guns or less'

They don't have it in Colorado.

It's interesting you bring that up because they've talked about putting it in just to charge him with it. I doubt that's going to happen due to the controversy around it but you never know with the United States Razz

actually they do have the death penalty.. although it's very rarely used which is why I thought they didn't legalise it.

Death penalty is something seriously stone-aged. Why do some US states still have it?

(If they kill him, then he's dead. If they put im into prison for the whole rest of his live he has looooooong time to think about it.)

The US is so far behind on so many subjects. That and our penal system sucks
