Since I'm getting into BATTING I figured I might as well make a thread to get feedback on my work and get improvements from my minions er.. fans anyway first up a water tower I am currently working on!


I'll add more pics later of hopefully maybe tomorrow and I'm also working on a new freight station and here is just a small preview pic of it as well.
anyway that's what I got so far, feed back is more then welcome!

Its nice, but you need to work out the roof of the water tower a bit so that it has a slight roof on the tank. keep up the good work, and remember that textures can do magic.

Ok so I got the water tower into bat thanks to Titanicbuff only problem with it is the black part on the bottom of the tank won't take a texture :\



Other then that it's looking good, just need help textuing the rest of it as well

Now up next is the project on my freight station.

You always like me to lay it to ya straight on the line, so that's what I'm gonna do.

The water tower - Looks pretty good in terms of modeling. I like what you've added since I last saw it.

Freight Station - It's a nice start, as well. I'm guessing the train tracks will go through the middle? Also, for the water cylinder in the corner, are you gonna add anything else to that? It might could use a ladder or some stairs curved around it to make it more realistic.

But I like what I see so far!

Yes that is how I like it, the way it is.

And the water tower has stalled cause of textures in bat >.> for now anyway.

The station what I was gonna do the corner opposite from the holding tank a crane with a forklift near it so the forklift could bring the cargo to the crane and put it on the train beside the tank area, that's just how I was going to do it, but if you think it would look better down the middle with a crane over it please be honest and tell me. As for the ladder, well I was gonna do that -_- and I failed miserably I can not seem to make a ladder at all unless it's over scaled and crappy looking.

I think its a good start Rocky,
and your close to being ready for textures, colors
and maybe a few additional small props I think.
But you have the general model down quite nicely , I think.

I really like the idea of a forklift, I think you should definitely do that. As for the ladder... I can try to help you in chat sometime if you would like it, or maybe Tiger can, too.

Well whether is through the lot or besides the lot
some train tracks here is an excellent idea for sure.
And in some sense its what the lot really needed maybe

Well this is just the building part of it, I'm gonna put it on a probably and hopefully like 4x4 or 5x5 lot and have on one side a road entrance for trucks then on the other a crane on the edge of train tracks

Nice! So are you actually making the buildings in sketchup then importing them to gmax?

About your texture problem with the water tower:

first, it might be an illumination problem.
Go to Customize >> Viewport Configuration
then select Force 2-sided, Default Lighting and 1 light.

Apply the texture to the water tower (you might still not be able to see it)
Go to Modifiers >> UV coordinates >> UVW map .
On the right panel you will see a selection of options to choose from (plane, cube, spherical, etc) Get familiar with them and choose the most appropiate one.

To further modify the layout of your texture go to:
Modifiers >> UVW unwrap >> click on edit and you can move the parameters of the texture as you desire.

Thank you erjolog, actually I had got help the next day after I posted those pics of the black tower, and it was the uvw map, it all worked out in the end thankfully

And actually I got it released on the STEX last night over at simtropolis
