What's up, everybody? I know I haven't been active on this site in quite awhile, but I wanted to share my work with other people. Basically, this series will be mainly videos (those are allowed, right?) showing the progression of my region as it grows. It starts out a little slow, but it'll get a lot faster pretty soon. Don't worry, the audio and commentary will hopefully get better with time. So without further ado, here is episode 1!

I love the concept Its a great idea with the commentary, this certainly captures what simcity is all about. Building a city from the ground up. I can't wait to see more

It is excellent to see a city built straight from the ground up without being prepared way ahead of time. The general concept for this journal being an LP is a great idea. There are several LPs for other games, it's refreshing to see one for SC4! Also your development style is very unique and a relieving break from the monotony of a lot of other journals (no offense)
Also, I love how you're developing the city and that you grow them instead of plopping them.. which makes this all the more unique.. much like Boston v2 or my Whitewater journal.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of this.

mayorm - Thanks! It'll get a lot faster from here, this was just the basic episode, which means I'll just mention the starts of other cities that are formed the exact same way as this, to avoid repetition.

Cheeseguy - Thanks man. I try to do everything my own way. It's a little bit similar to the way CSG developed Boston, but I don't think it's anywhere near as realistic. I just can't wait to get to the larger-scale stuff.

Weeeell... I posted this on le YouTubes a long time ago, but am only now realizing that I totally forgot to post it on here. So without further le's and whales, here is Episode 3, and a few days from now, I'll put up Episode 4.


I'll be getting back into recording some time soon hopefully, and there *might be better editing skills involved as well.

As if to show how old this footage really is, in this episode I show some work I've done throughout the region, and make some comments about the ongoing Heat-Celtics series... ongoing in early June, that is. I'm back in school now, and time is getting cut into by AP classes, however, I should have some sped-up footage of a few hours of gameplay, condensed into one episode. Hopefully it'll show how long is really spent on this game.

Also I noticed your zoning, you don't have to click and drag to zone. I was wondering is that a cheat or a mod that you downloaded?

It's a mod I'm pretty sure. It allows you to place agricultural zones of any size. I'll go look it up and maybe find the link if I have it.

It's a mod by Fukuda from back in 2006. Amazingly, it only has around 2400 downloads.

Thanks guys! And I tried like 20 times to get that bridge in Flint to go over the water perfectly. It took me forever.

Now, this city is going to be slightly different. I sometimes get bored of the slow work, and want to build really quickly. In these cases, I end up with something like Brown River. I started it in mid-October, building it up to around 20000 people or so.



A few days later, I came back again and added about 10000 more. Then, I left it untouched for months.



Today, I had about 7 hours to kill, was already tired, and had no homework. So I came back worked through the entire region to raise demand before returning to Brown River and creating this:



Its population, on a medium tile, is now sitting at 72000 people, with most of the about 2/3 of the tile being unusable because of mountains or water. Most of the buildings are medium-density, except for right here, in the very core. I clearly need some more midrise/skyscrapers in my plugins, because I swear that beige and blue building is there about 10 times. Thanks for reading!
