Andera Islands: Introduction

Andera Islands is based on what I call 'interactive sensible growth', which means it will attempt to create a Region (very) loosely following the concept of natural growth giving all players access to all maps.

Andera Islands 2d006ae262fef78512428b8c7024be62

Andera Islands is not intended as a region in which each player builds as mayor of a city, but as a region that, similar to a model railroad club, is build together by all players to create a region.
This happens in the course of the game based on necessity, tenders, proposals, stupid ideas ...
The broad principles are chosen, and the decisions made, by a 'Parliament' (vote by the players that is) and everything else will be 'privatized industries' or role play. This might include construction companies, City planners, mining companies, environmental groups, ski lift operators,...
These 'institutions', founded by the players, will then play in place of the 'real' players.

Andera Islands A72a93ce61da95731f3b34d2bc9af1d0

Schematic flow of the game:
1) At the beginning, various maps are awarded to several players where each
one builds various small villages. Pretty much the only restriction here will be the size of the village.
Upon completion of the work the maps are returned to the Server.
2) Work on the connecting maps. Roads with further urban and
agricultural areas (and whatever else springs to our minds) on the surrounding maps to have everything gradually grow together.
Maps will be given by request or by winning a tender for a given project. Upon
completion of the work the maps are returned to the Server.
3) Depending on 'making sense' and simple lust for tinkering the individual maps will be enlarged, Highways build, tracks laid, stadiums (airports, exhibition halls, Nature reserves, canals,...) build.

At point 1 and 2 while there obviously will be restrictions on the 'creative freedom', this will be most likely concerned with size and type of construction, not limiting the actual creativity or the layout.

The concept 'prohibits' nothing, it prescribes the requirements regarding the building density and, inevitably following from this, fairly precise population numbers only.
As for the way forward it just won't necessarily be a specific players job to work at any given city, but the player who has a good idea or who is good
at whatever is necessary to build.

Example: A map on which I have built the first town where Mr.Y then built Rail lines, we now need a container port. We both don't know how to or simply don't want to, but Mr.X is good at it or he feels like it.
So the map goes to him for the port. Then the city will be expanded, which again will be done by somebody who's good at downtown building or just feels like he has a good idea.

That region looks incredible! Great start, I like your idea of having lots of small natural growths combined into one great creation.

Andera Islands 2c3478fe73c635fb06fb8674e2f0a289

Once again humanity has stumbled upon a group of, presumably, uninhabited islands lost in the vast Oceans of the earth.

Andera Islands A72a93ce61da95731f3b34d2bc9af1d0

Following an international poll they were named 'Andera Islands' and given a flag.

Andera Islands 2d006ae262fef78512428b8c7024be62

To underline the desire of the international community to create a peacefull world in which all mankind will live together in harmony, it was decided to develop Andera Islands in a joint effort. A map was drawn up in which each interested cultural group has been given sectors to construct in.

The aim of the Andera Island project is to show that the various influences are able to coexist peacefully, creating a multicolored and varied livingspace. In this Journal we will follow the development of Andera Islands close-up and from the inside.

After a long and boring journey the first new Settlers have finally arrived at Andera Islands. As it turns out, the group that won the (inofficial) race to be the Pioneers is the north-american contingent led by the charismatic Reverend William Goodwill.

Heeding the call to follow some uncertain tradition, Rev. Goodwill spared no effort and no cost (and the Cruise Ship did cost quite a bit to hire...) to convince his numerous community to come along on this unique adventure.

Here we can see the memorable moment when the fleet throws the anchor in the Bay of Saphira Beach.

Always the first to smell a new business opportunity, Roberto Furfante, Bostonian of italian origins, quickly became part of the Reverends congregation after hearing about the project. He decided to close shop in Boston and to re-open his company as SiMa Urban Constructions srl. on the main Andera Island.

Soon after the first dawn in their new homeland some heavy machinery and work crews were landed on the beach. They started with clearing a path through the coastal forest and set up a small base camp.

Being acustomed to logistical problems of all kind, a small temporary port was constructed to allow the settlers to move their belongings on shore and to set up home.

Andera Islands 9cdcb6133907bf5b521ffcf90f0e3188

From there the experience of the the SiMa crews made for easy going and soon a road was laid out along which three Villages started growing with surprising speed.

The first one, in which Roberto decided to set up shop, was called New Boston.

Andera Islands 52df7a35cfeb023f16a7b29c47e95278

The second village, destined to become an import crossroads, was named Goodwill in the honour of the founding father.

Andera Islands 9a0640db6a3f133a4073c421bc5d4004

The third village, so far just an outpost in the rural landscape, was baptized by its inhabitants New Hope.

It seems things are going well and we from the "Multiplayer News Network" look forward to the next chapter. We hope you, our dear Readers, do the same.

Multiplayer News Network: Insider talks about french arrival

At first it seemed as if the French woulnd't take a seperate part in the project, but, after being allocated a small area to develop, somebody had to take care of preparations. Still not very interested, the project was left in the hands of some Numbercrunchers to be studied and to propose a plan.

First things first, they decided to translate the Project to be able to better interprete it.
Here is a part of the original text sent from the U.N.: "...calling on all Nations to engage in a Project of building a peacefull and international society in a largely unknown natural environment..."

As everywhere in the world nowadays, the burocracy is run by people used to spin doctoring (and to covering their own lower backsides) and so this is the line they came up with for whoever had to decide on what to do: "...we are being asked to partecipate in an international project of building a peacefull society and engage in an unknown (therefore possibly hostile) environment..."

After a quick glance at the document (and a long thought about the next election campaign) the important folks found a perfect solution. They decided to airlift a battallion from the Foreign Legion into the most remote part of the zone. This way an international representation and a whole variety of skills would be assured.

Unfortunately we didn't manage to get hold of pictures showing the initial phase. This is how the area looks today seen from one of our news satelites.

Andera Islands D8dc4c16e5d28de60505603e34567f7c

As was to be expected of a bunch of mercenaries, reaching from Career Officers to Craftsmen to Delinquents, and following age-old traditions, they took with them an adequate number of women and whatever else may be usefull for the challenge.
As we can see on these pictures of the first two settlements, they excelled at their task and started constructing several Villages around the area.

Once certified that their livingspace was as beautifull as it was quiet and peacefull, the brave men called home and invited their friends and families to join them on Andera. The second wave of arrivals provided for a boost in population numbers and soon another two, even larger, Villages sprang up.

I like those farms and i also love how your villages are built to fit the land they occupy rather than transform the land to fit the town.
Keep it up. Very Happy
