1 Simmania's Story on 2010-09-16, 19:27

Three years ago our site founder mayorm decided to enter ST chat for the first time. However, after spending time in ST chat and keeping up activity on Simsports he simply needed a safe place away from ST.

Thus Simmania was born... on July 7, 2009.

For several weeks it was just mayorm and Admin and promotion on ST basically went nowhere. After one last attempt to promote the site in ST chat he found a person by the name of Blakesterville in the chat that day. As you all know "blake" is still active here and many of our current threads and discussions have been started by him. He has played a significant role in keeping the site around for as long as it has.

After effort on both member's part on promoting the site a member named yoda87 joined. He was very active in the beginning however since has left us. He does however occasionally, but rarely visit us and participate in discussions. Another member by the name of Crochunter joined, but has since deleted his account. dcmetro (now known as edge) was also one of our founding members.

The site continued to be very inactive, sometimes as little as only 1 message a week. Mayorm's activity in ST chat increased as well as his promotion of the site. And then one day he found a room called Simlabs.

Simlabs was home to several of our currently active members today and without them this site might not have been around today. This inclued bben (Brian), who still is a very helpful and very active person both in chat and on the forums. He is also responsible for our current day Simmania BAT Team. Other helpdesk/simlabs members that joined around that time was reaper88, brenn21, meister1235, and tommy7777. Some of these members are inactive however.

After these members joined several new ones had continuously came in, posting was increasing and the site became more and more active. This is around the time I (Cheeseguy) joined, outposting all of the current members combined in as little as two weeks, and continuing to hold the highest post count to this day.

In 2010 we held our first SMPCA (Simmania People's Choice Awards) which increased activity even more. It was around this time that Blakesterville was promoted to admin and several new additions were made to our staff. While 2011 was mostly uneventful, the second annual SMPCA took place and activity steadily increased along with the amount of members.

2012 has so far been an active year. The site reached 100 members on April 9, 2012, with Towncrafter being the lucky 100th member. He is still active here, especially in the forum games, which have become the staple of our community. 2012 has also seen record breaking activity, sometimes over 75 posts in a single day. On July 7, 2012, Simmania held its 3rd anniversary seminar and chat party, where it set a record for chat members, which is now at nine.

The site is now on twitter and has broken a record number of members online which is now at 62. K50, our newest admin, is working on Simmania v3, although it's being kept a surprise.

I remember Yoda and Crochunter, that goes Way....... back. I remember 12 member August 09' fun but empty. It was very slow back then. I'm kinda doin the same thing, I decided against the aus and have instead started a fansite of my own, with simmania being a huge inspiration. I wish that it didn't get deleted, the original simmania, I really would like to reminisce Sad If I may have my input, I'd say that based off this story, I think that Blakesterville should be admin #2.

I think you should delete my comments... They're useless.

Also the IP addresses. Identity theft is rising, you know. Wink

But otherwise thanks for posting the story. Also thank mayorm for telling the story and the struggles he went through to start SimMania! cheers

Aldini: IP Adresses? Those are dates! It is hard to tell an IP adress from a date though...

I think, under any circumstances, the site is growing rather rapidly lately, and the time will soon come where we may need a new admin...

You know actually this is a plea you know. We need Blakesterville as an admin!

btw, did I say Simmania is #1?

Ok a couple comments
Aldini- Ip adresses can only be seen by admins and mods. Ip adressess are also not connected with identity. And I will never give out an IP adress to anyone unless the authorities demand me to do so. And if you suspect a staff member of giving your IP adress away to anyone please contact me.
k50- I don't know if it is my computer but the pic in your sig is being displayed to me as you have run out of bandwith on photobucket.
Also everyone, you don't have to thank me for telling about the site's history. As founder of Simmania I feel it is my duty to do so, plus I like history a lot Very Happy

Yup. I guess I was wrong, but those numbers sure are annoying. Razz
Yes, K50 does have that great looking pic of Photobucket on his sig, I see it too. Exclamation
And I must thank you because you are an awesome member, good thing you didn't delete the site! I wouldn't have been able to sign up at the time, my computer was gone for a few months. bounce

Isn't that photobucket thing beautiful? Razz

It gets reverted in two to four days, I believe.

Reverted to what? An imageshack one? Cause those have nothing but threatening words.

But we are going off topic. Mayorm, please make Blakesterville an admin.

I forgot about Crochunter. Yoda87 is missed.
I thought I was after Yoda87 -- I guess I was wrong. Come to think of it, Yoda was one of the founding fathers of Simmania.

I remember the first thread I started (which is gone now, by the way). Something like "What 'My Sim' do you hate most?". It was the birth of discussion here. It was a stupid thread, but it got things started.

well IDK I could be wrong on the order of users. Yes I also remember that thread... maybe you could bring it back in the general discussion.

sorry to bring back an old thread, but I just noticed it. Blakesterville, you crochunter, mayorm, dcmetro, and guitarman were some of the main founding fathers. I also remember an old fellow nmed peter too.

again sorry to bring this thread back to life as it seems to have been dead for awhile Sad

In response to that, if i'm thinking of Petrova Peter, he has left the community but is going to come back every once in a while.

Honored to be mentioned, but I'd say you in over me.

Yeah, I remember when Peter co-moderated the community activities board alongside me, back in the earliest of days here. Mayorm actually had a vote for who was to be elected to moderate and Peter was elected, LOL. I miss those days.

Guitarmansuperstar: His username was simply "Peter" he wasn't a heavy poster, but was still a huge part of the community at the time. He has not been active for over a year. It would be very nice to have him back. (It's already huge that you and Yoda have come back. Very Happy)
